The "Romance Scam," a term police use to refer to online romance scams, is taking on alarming proportions in Europe, according to SonntagsBlick in Switzerland. In 2019, the number of cases doubled in the three most populous cantons of German-speaking Switzerland, namely Aargau, Bern and Zurich. Zurich police tell the magazine that the real numbers are even higher, with a feeling of shame often preventing victims ruined to report the scam to the police.
